Daily Work Management

Achieve Consistent Results and Maximize Output with Daily Work Management

Daily work management is the way of managing the business on a day-to-day basis to ensure the planned results are achieved and effective countermeasures are taken. Daily Work Management is a process to gain control over plan vs actual and to bring stability and predictability in day to day processes. Daily work management allows us to know on a daily basis if we are on track to achieve our goals or not.

Daily work management is the systematic lean approach that ensures daily tasks are aligned with company goals and targets. It helps leaders to ensure that daily tasks are completed as per allocated time and standards. It incorporates regular review systems and Gemba walks, enabling leaders to monitor performance, identify issues at the source, and reinforce standard work practices.

We have extensive experience in implementing Daily Work Management (DWM) systems and training teams to effectively apply its principles. Our approach ensures that organisations build the capability to sustain performance, maintain standards, and drive continuous improvement through structured daily routines and leadership engagement.

Daily Work Management empowers teams to align actions with outcomes and consistently deliver results — with quality, optimized performance, and on-time delivery.

Why is Daily Work Management important?

Helps improve accountability to achieve goals & targets

Helps achieve stability & predictability in operations

Ensures early detention and correction of errors and issues

Improves productivity through timely and standard task execution

Eliminates time wasted in non-value adding activities

Steps of implementing Daily Work Management

Daily Standard Work

Daily standard work is a list of routine and improvement tasks to be done on a daily  or weekly basis to achieve the goals / KPIs. Each task has allocated time and standards to follow. Daily Standard work provides a structure and routine that helps leaders shift from a sole focus on results to a dual focus on process plus results.

Following steps are involved in creating standard work are:

  • Selecting roles for creating daily standard work
  • Assess current state & identify activities required to achieve goals on a daily basis and perform routine tasks
  • Allocate frequency to each task
  • Allocate standard to be followed to perform the tasks
  • Finalise Daily Standard worksheet for each employee

Visual Controls

Visual controls enable shop floor leaders to quickly grasp situations on key Issues during Gemba walk. The purpose for visual controls is to focus on the process and make it easy to compare expected versus actual performance.

Examples of various visual controls are:

  • Kamishibai audit system
  • Hourly production tracking board
  • Daily Accountability board
  • Kanban Priority board for production
  • Skill matrix
  • Labour rotation plan
  • Idea Board

Daily Accountability

Daily reviews and meetings on target vs actual achievement on Key Performance Indicators, employee performance on allocated tasks and standard work and action tracking and review of previous day. It involves daily accountability meetings at all tiers of operators, managers and leaders to assess current state based on data captured on visual controls, assign corrective actions and hold team members accountable for completing the tasks. Daily accountability steps include:

  • Review tasks with due date and record reasons for delay
  • Review new tasks and check the future tasks to be be assigned a specific date
  • Check status of output – problems relating to orders, quality issues, equipment maintenance issues
